Quinley's Birthday

Written by Los Pollos Hermanos at 18:45 13/8-2014

"Alright guys, stop it already" Said Carney as he sat down in the teams hotel in Windhoek, Namibia, where we are training for the upcoming ITT. The whole team had just sung happy birthday, and was now enjoying a king sized breakfast.

Carney Quinley started his career the 25th of August, 2010, as a rider for the TT'ers, a British Time-Trail Team, where he won 5 races, ended 9 times on the podium, and 12 result overall. After TT'ers, he was a member of Nairoby city cycling club and PEKAC B, to this day two of the best teams in cycling. sadly, he had no results while racing for those team, his best result was a 17th place in
Eastham - Croydon, in the first division. Despite this lack of results in three seasons (!), it took only 6 days before his last team picked him up. 13 january 2013, a monumental day in our history. He has won only one race (Hamad ITT, a race which he has won three times now, his nickname is "The Hero of Hamad", he has a statue there, there are three schools, five streets and a goat who are named after him), 5 times on the podium and 20 result overall, which makes his all time overall 6 won races, 14 times on the podium and 32 results. Those might not be the best results ever, but he still is the most important rider in our history, and the person who has got us the most points (although Bruno Ovensen is a close second). And Today, he has turned Forty. He is ready to retire. He is signed up for Windhoek ITT, and he has hinted me that it will be his last race. After that, he will try to be in the top-50 list of the hour record, and after that, he will retire.
He'll probably continue to work for us, maybe as a mechanic, maybe as a doctor, maybe he will kick me out of my position one day, who knows.

Carney, you are the oldest rider of our team, and, except for Normando (pizarro), the rider who is here the longest. you are forty, and about to retire. So, Carney Quinley, Hero of Hamad, I want to thank you. For the points. For the coaching. For the late beers when the rest of the team was asleep. You are a living legend. You will be missed. Good luck.
